NCAA Division I Recruiting Rules Update!

Courtesy of NCSA Athletic Recruiting, here are some important updates with regards to NCAA Division I coaches with regards to social media and recruiting. 

Team-
 
As most of you already know, the NCAA changed the way DI Coaches are allowed to interact with recruits via social media.
 
However, DII and DIII coaches are still restricted.

Division I
 
**NEW RULE** 11.3.2.7.1 Exception—Actions That Indicate Approval of Content on Social Media Platforms. 
An athletics department staff member may take actions (e.g., “like,” “favorite,” republish, etc.) on social media platforms that indicate approval of content on social media platforms that was generated by users of the platforms other than institutional staff members or representatives of an institution’s athletics interests. (Adopted: 4/28/16 effective 8/1/16)
 
 
Division II
 
13.4.5 Electronic Transmissions. 
Electronically transmitted correspondence (e.g., instant messaging, text messaging) shall not be sent to a prospective student-athlete [or the prospective student-athlete’s relatives or legal guardian(s) and coaches] before June 15 immediately preceding the prospective student-athlete’s junior year in high school. All electronically transmitted correspondence shall be sent directly to the prospective student-athlete [or the prospective student-athlete’s relatives or legal guardian(s) and coaches] and shall be private between only the sender and recipient (e.g., no use of chat rooms, message boards, posts to “walls”). There shall be no limit on the number of electronic transmissions sent by institutional staff members to a prospective student-athlete [or the prospective student-athlete’s relatives or legal guardian(s). Color attachments and hyperlinks may be included with electronically transmitted correspondence sent to a prospective student-athlete, provided there is no cost (e.g., subscription fee) associated with sending the item attached or linked to the electronically transmitted correspondence. Division III
 
13.02.11 Electronic Transmissions
Any electronically transmitted correspondence (e.g., electronic mail, Instant Messenger, private communication through social networking site, text messages or facsimiles) may be sent to a prospective student-athlete (or his or her parents or legal guardians) provided the communication is private between only the sender and recipient (e.g., no use of public chat rooms, message boards, public communication through a social networking site). An enrolled student-athlete may send private electronic correspondence (e.g., electronic mail, Instant Messenger, private communication through social networking site, text messages or facsimiles) to a prospective student-athlete for recruitment purposes. [D] (Adopted: 1/14/08 effective 8/1/08, Revised: 7/21/09, 4/11/11, 1/14/12, 1/19/13) 
 
13.02.11.1 Timing of Electronic Transmissions. 
There are no restrictions on the timing for sending private electronic correspondence (e.g., electronic mail, Instant Messenger, text messages or facsimiles) to prospective student-athletes. (Adopted: 4/20/09, Revised: 1/14/12, 1/19/13) 
 
13.02.11.2 Exception—Electronic Transmissions by or to Individuals Diagnosed as Deaf or Hard of Hearing. 
Electronically transmitted correspondence in forms other than electronic mail, text messages and facsimiles may be sent to a prospective student-athlete if either the athletics department staff member sending the correspondence or the prospective student-athlete receiving the correspondence has been diagnosed as deaf or hard of hearing.
