6 on 6 with UCLA Head Coach, Mike Sealy

It is a pleasure to feature UCLA Head Coach Mike Sealy, winning coach of the 2011 National Championship on collegevolleyballcoach.com!

6 on 6 with UCLA's Mike Sealy:

1.  What drew you into the profession of college volleyball coaching?
it was either that or have to grow up....

 2.  If you could change one thing about the sport of college volleyball, what would that be?
the recruiting timeline and how serious it gets at the junior level so quickly

3.  Who is the most famous person you have met and where was it?
barack obama.  when he was a senator he was in hawaii with family.  i was taking my puppy for a walk at waimea bay and his daughters ran over to pet her.  he and michelle followed.

4.  Where is your favorite vacation spot?
anywhere beachy where surfing is possible

5.  What is the least enjoyable part of your job?
i prefer to call it "biggest challenge"...bringing the game home with me and not being able to turn it off.

6.  Sideout scoring or Rally scoring?
sideout if my team is better than the opponent, rally if we are not as good.

  1. Thank you for the new 6 on 6 feature. Love Coach Sealy's answer to question #2. It is getting way to serious in the junior level. May be you can write something to address the craziness that is going on in the juniors level. From winning at all cost to never ending private lessons on top of regular practices, I am seeing injuries all over the places and these girls are not even in high school yet. How are they going to play in college when their bodies are all beat up.
Thanks so much for you do.

  2. Glad you like the feature. Upcoming 6 on 6's include Russ Rose and John Cook, and I think you will find their answers interesting. I agree these are crazy times in club volleyball, and this craziness is going uphill into collegiate volleyball. Good idea on a post - I will try to capture some of your points in future update.
