High School Volleyball Tryout advice

Dear Coach,

I'm currently in 8th grade and open gyms start tomorrow for me. sorry about the late email , but i just found your website. i would really appreciate it if you could let me know soon. i want to make freshman , or even jv. i've played middle school volleyball for 3 years and 1 year of club volleyball. my overhand serves arent the best , i usually get 7 or 8 out of 10. and im not the best player, but im pretty decent. im really determined and volleyball is my life. are there any things i should do to get the coaches to notice me in open gyms and tryouts? i'm already going to the notre dame camp this summer so i have the summer camp covered  .  thanks for the help! C.P

Best way to garner attention of coaches is to put forth very good effort and stay positive.  If you work hard, go after everything, don't stop after a rally or two, and are supportive of your team mates, then the coaches will notice you.  Coaches do not like negative or selfish players, or players that are lazy or only go after some of the balls.

You have 3 years of middle school and 1 year of club, so your skill sets should be solid and not an issue.  Your talent is there, now make sure your attitude and effort is even better.

Lastly, relax and have fun.  If you play with a smile, it only makes you a better player.
