NCAA Equity?

Go to a NCAA Division I Football game - Take it all in. Go to a NCAA Division I Volleyball game - Take it all in.

Now, with a straight face, look me in the eye and tell me that there is Gender Equity in NCAA athletics.

Are you saying women's sports do not get enough support from the university or that football has earned their large budgets?

Gender equity? Come on, Coach. I have three daughters, and I want all the equity for them that is appropriate... but you can't make people go to volleyball games and to make them stop going to football games.

Some things in life just aren't "equal." The girls have equal opportunity to play collegiate sports, but you can't just force everything else to be equal. You just can't.

So, Coach, I love your website... but you really need to get over this issue. You're just not thinking clearly on it.

I don't know the NCAA definition of "gender equity." But I do have a daughter who plays DII volleyball in the Midwest. Her team has regular fundraisers to help defray travel costs - so they can charter coach buses instead of using school vans for their 12-hour trips (one way) around the conference. And if she doesn't sell her allotment of tickets for the pancake breakfasts (or fish fry, or whatever), she has to cover the cost of the tix herself. Meanwhile, the school's entire football team stays in a local hotel the night before HOME games, so the coach can keep the young men focused and out of trouble. And I don't ever see any of those football players flipping any pancakes. That's my definition of inequity.

Lets try charging the price of a D1 football game at a D1 volleyball game, and see how that goes over.. That will be equality.

I lose more and more respect he more of the Bad Call posts I read Coach

Hero Coach, I have a daughter who has a(50+)large stack of letters of interest for VB and track. It has been a shock to visit big name D1 & D11 schools that have very limited scholarship funds, for both programs, while watching their PAC EVERYTHING/BIG BUDGET football teams that seem to have every perk.
Had I not been a follower of your articles (since the beginning)it would have been both confusing and discouraging. You gave us the heads up, and I truly appreciate it. YOU HAVE MY RESPECT! Because you were willing to be both candid and outspoken about the sometimes disfunctional college VB world, we have been able to make intelligent, informed decisions to help guide our college bound daughter. Please continue to keep us informed, and I'll continue to ask the AD's if they are paying the VB coachs enough!!!

I love volleyball just as much as the rest of us, but men's football and basketball MAKE money for schools.. Of coarse they are going to have bigger budgets.
